The Unheard Silence

This post has been published by me as a part of Blog-a-Ton 55; the fifty-fifth edition of the online marathon of Bloggers; where we decide and we write. In association with Rashmi Kumar, the author of Hooked, Lined and Single and Jyoti Arora, the author of Lemon Girl. .

Wasn't it long awaited?
Wasn't it the earnest appeal to drench the dry terrain?
Left barren due to the scorch...
Cracked lips of the thirsty soul
Hands raised in prayer...
For the downpour..the soothing, cooling rainstorm.
......................................................................................

The showers washing the terrain with its mighty power
Seemingly quenching the thirst of the torrid soil...
Washing away the atrocious vice that
Has left the steps estranged
Never to be trodden by a mortal soul...
The door creaking of the cries that was never heard...
The void aisle once filled with mirth...
Storm before the onset of monsoons
Quietened by the silence, only the drizzle and the gust...
Silence of the soul.

  2. Hi Cherry Blossom,

    Visiting you from Blogaton.

Your poem epitomizes a "Thirst-quencher"! There is an anguish in these words for someone has been waiting..for a long time.
Please pardon me if i have interpreted it wrong.
I feel you have portrayed a very aspect of Rains..and the relationship it has been objects/people that await the first shower..badly.

    Regards,
    Megha

    1. Hi Megha, thanks for visiting. You are absolutely right in your interpretation as far as the first part goes. Actually I left it open as per reader's perception of the piece. But the second part says that the place is left desolate due to some catastrophe, whatever it may be and the first shower is trying to wash it away, which isn't possible. I don't know if it could convey it properly.

  3. a different dimension of rain is visible in this piece which indicates the long unending wait and the void associated with it

  4. I like the idea of rain being a thirst quencher. Like the water after a drought. Giving relief. Healing!

  5. Thanks Leo for the visit. Yes 'drought', what kind of drought do you expect here? Could you figure out?

  6. Like the way you've put it open to interpretation...
What I could understand, the second part is about the silence that is drawn after souls lost in the wait of the rain..Please correct me if I am off..

    1. It could be the souls lost waiting for the rain, or any criminal act, bloodshed, etc, which is swept by the rain.

  7. It's an unending wait I guess. Very meaningful poem!

  8. Rains rescue all our pains, a blessing in disguise but uncertain, too.
